Acne
Clear skin for a confident me
Acne originally was a skin disease of mainly young people during puberty. In Acne prone skin, blackheads, pustules and nodules under the skin are most commonly found on the face, back and décolleté. Due to today's environmental influences, acne can be found in almost all age groups. Especially adults are increasingly suffering from acne as well.
The blemished skin often correlates with low self-esteem and feeling "uncomfortable in your own skin". Treating existing acne scars is a difficult and protracted process. Therefore, early and specific treatment against acne is crucial.
Symptoms
Acne prone skin manifests with blackheads, purulent pustules and nodules under the skin. The spectrum ranges from mild acne to the most severe forms with massive inflammation and scarring, if not treated specifically and in early stages.

Root causes
Acne is mainly caused by overfunction and enlargement of the sebaceous glands, clogged pores and subsequent bacterial superinfection. Internal factors such as hormones or medication are the major triggers of blemished skin. However, incorrect care with oily (comedogenic) products can aggravate acne as well. Many of the popular home remedies against acne often proof to be counterproductive. There are countless creams, ointments and lotions for the treatment of acne – but only few of them have been proven to be effective (evidence-based background).
The western diet with its many dairy products, refined sugars and wheat has a direct impact on insulin levels and thus on the acne symptoms, especially to acne tarda seen in adults.
Why does acne develop?
Where does baby acne appear?
Who gets acne?
Internal and external hormones during puberty, from the environment, medications and in food lead to activation of the sebaceous glands, blockage and colonisation with bacteria that cause inflammation. External factors such as comedogenic cosmetic products, stress, manipulation and the western diet also play a major role in the pathogenesis of acne.

Baby acne usually starts on the face a few days after birth and subsequently spreads to the chest and the back. Baby acne is completely innocuous and caused by the natural and important hormonal changes during the last months of pregnancy as well as by the change in the hormonal balance of the newborn child a few weeks after birth. The best advice is to wait and do nothing about it.
Anyone can get acne. Young people whose parents have suffered from severe acne are particularly at risk. However, lately many adults suffer from acne as well, due to various environmental influences such as the typical western diet and interventions in our natural hormonal system (birth control pill, drinking water, meat). This form of acne normally must be treated with medication- unlike puberty acne, it is not self-limiting.
Treatment
Acne-free skin can only be achieved by targeted therapy. Your dermatologist at sweet skin will help you to successfully treat acne and assist you on your way to clear skin and self-esteem.
Mild cases of acne can often be successfully treated with topical ointments and wash lotions. More severe cases of acne need to be treated with anti-inflammatory or antibiotic gels, but often also with systemic Retinoids (vitamin A) or antibiotics. The use of these drugs is strictly forbidden before or during pregnancy. Remedies for adult acne are usually no different from those for younger patients, however, often we must establish a long-term treatment. Acne treatment often leads to dry skin - which requires careful selection of skin care products. Your specialist at sweet skin will be happy to help you make the right choices. There are several different methods available for removing acne scars. These include fractional laser therapy, own blood therapy, and mesotherapy.
